Heads up: We’re approaching Daylight Savings! On Sunday, November 7th we’ll “Fall Back”.
This means we’ll turn our clocks one hour earlier and enjoy an extra hour of sleep…wait…who am I kidding…you have kids!
Time change is a very frustrating time of year for parents of young children, as it means trying to adjust their sleep schedules with as little disruption as possible.
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
Here’s what you need to know:
- Sleep schedules need to be shifted one hour later.
- Make these changes in either 15 or 30-minute increments, every 2 or 3 days, depending on the age of your child and what they can tolerate.
- Don’t rush in as soon as you hear your child waking up in the morning. We want their mornings to gradually shift later with the rest of their sleep schedule.
- You can start early to be in line with the “new” time as of Sunday, or wait for the day of time change to start making changes. Whatever works best for your family.
Here are some examples of what this can look like:

It can take about a week for any of us to adjust to changes in sleep schedules. So, give it time and patience, and stay consistent with your expectations around your child’s sleep.
