How to Create the Perfect Nursery

You’ll soon be bringing your new baby home (or maybe your baby’s already here)! Congratulations!

You’re excited to set up the nursery, but there are so many baby products, nursery décor, and trends out there that you’re overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.

Here are my top 5 tips for creating the perfect nursery for your baby:

Crib/Bassinet and Nothing Else!

The best and safest place for your baby to sleep is in a crib or bassinet with a firm mattress covered with a fitted sheet and nothing else. This is from a safety perspective and also to help your baby learn that their crib is just for sleep and not for playtime.

Minimize Distractions

Don’t have anything in your baby’s room that might be distracting – like mobiles or projectors. Again, this is to help your baby learn that their room is a place for sleep, not play.

Darken it Up

Your baby’s room should be as dark as absolutely possible. Darkness stimulates melatonin production, which will help your baby fall asleep easier and stay asleep for longer.

Run Some White Noise

Try to keep the noise level in your house to a minimum and run some white noise in your baby’s room to block out the rest. This will help them fall asleep and stay asleep without being disrupted.

Keep it Cool, but Not Too Cool

We all tend to sleep better in a slightly cooler environment. If the room temperature is comfortable for you, then it’s comfortable for your baby. As parents, we often tend to over-bundle our babies a bit. Typically, one layer of pajamas or clothing plus a sleep sack is plenty.

Your next step is to start your baby off with healthy sleep habits.
